Rush Sturges 1st Place 2009 Tobin Race

by Admin 27. September 2009 18:16

Just back from the 19th annual Tobin race. Thanks to American Whitewater, this section of class IV has scheduled flows throughout the summer. Special thanks to Macy Burnam for putting it on and providing all the scandalous prizes.

It's exciting to see that people are fired up on downriver racing. There were over 300 people camped out on the river and the "long boats" are back in a major way. The Dagger Green boat and Dagger Nomad took the top spot in all 3 categories...

The race was followed by an all time party with an all time cast of characters...

Alexandra Falls World Record 2 Year Anniversary

by Admin 13. September 2009 09:10

On Sept 7th 2007 Tyler Bradt set the World Record Waterfall Descent of Alexandra Falls at 107 feet. I too attempted the falls, but lost the record after my skirt imploded and I swam into a hideous pocket behind the curtain. A lot of people have asked me about my experience, and there has been a lot of misunderstanding as to what happened to me exactly. I thought I would use the 2 year anniversary to post the video on YouTube and tell the story as it was...

USA Team Trials

by Admin 31. May 2009 13:42

It's been a pretty crazy 5 weeks leading up to this event... I've been touring all over Quebec/Ontario with the boys searching for the biggest river waves we could find... We've been getting awesome footage/photos from the trip, and the only days i've had off have been driving... The waves were so epic out in Quebec that I debated not even coming to USA TEAM TRIALS here in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. To be honest, I haven't really been that fired up to compete on small features and i've only been training on big waves for the past few years... The small spots are not that progressive and not that fun to paddle (for me). However, I have been on the USA Team for the past 3 World Championships and I always enjoy going to the World Championships. I came into this competition determined to make the team, but also ok with the idea that I might not. In the past i've been so stressed out about making the team but this time around I was just relaxed and confident... In the end, I manged to place 5th in the U.S.A. securing a spot on the Mens Freestyle Team. I'm fired up to represent the U.S.A. in Thun, Switzerland this August. Before I get to that, i've still got Mountain Games coming up, Iceland, California Creekin and eastern Canada again. It was a tough event and I am super happy to have made it...

Corsica 2009 Trip Report

by Admin 12. May 2009 01:35

After reports of a record snowpack on Corsica, the excitement began to rise among the paddle community across Europe. Right in time with the snowmelt filling the rivers of the Isle de Belle, the ferries in Bastia began to spit out countless cars full with paddlers.

We happily followed the invitation of Kayak Session, the international whitewater magazine, to join the Corsika Kayak Easter Session, a week long festival on the banks of the Tavignano River to paddle together and create a visible presence as a group to help to preserve these pristine white water gems of Corsica.More...
