Last weekend during the final day of the ECA European Championships in Freestyle Kayak it was time for another Teva Cardboard Race. People in Lienz, Austria are known for being very interested in sport events like the annual Red Bull Dolomitenmann, the biggest multi-sport relay race on earth. No surprise that about 500 spectators attended this years cardboard race despite the not so quite common weather for the region - overcast and rather chilly temperatures.

Wetsuits, helmets and paddles got supplied by a local raft company for those who just decided on the sport to join the fun event with plenty of local and international teams signing up. They had 3 hours to build their crafts purely out of cardboard and packing tape. Once finished they had to paddle down the short and pushy section of whitewater of the towns whitewater park, with most of them crossing the finish line more and less in one piece and everyone still on board...
In the end it was a team of 2 young Slovakian girls taking first place with their “Chic`s Boat” beating 2 strong local teams from Lienz to second and third place.
A big thank you to the water rescue team to pick up all the bits and pieces !
