Profile in Courage

by RandyPierce - Teva Life Agent 21. June 2010 14:25

We are 12 Days away from our Mt. Washington climb and in the preparation we are heading to Cannon Mountain this coming weekend.  Cannon has had many names including Mt. Freak and the more widely known Profile Mountain in honor of the once proud profile of the "Old Man of the Mountain" which collapsed on May 3, 2003.  This is a powerfully symbolic Mountain and at 4100 feet it will give us some work and also a cause for reflection.

The Old Man used to reflect off the waters of Profile Lake at the trailhead but the forces of erosion finally brought down a symbol so striking it remains the symbol of my state.  Now, seven years after it is gone, the centuries old mark upon those who visit New Hampshire's mountains is unchanged.  I can no longer look up to see the scar which remains where the Old Man was but I understand he called a lot of people to these mountains and his memory calls many still.  I know the Mountains linger with me long after I've left them and I hope some part of our Vision does the same as we go forward with our 2020 Vision Quest.  As always, thanks to Teva for helping make this reality.

Plenty of fun at Teva Cardboard Race

by Arnd 21. June 2010 01:41

Last weekend during the final day of the ECA European Championships in Freestyle Kayak it was time for another Teva Cardboard Race. People in Lienz, Austria are known for being very interested in sport events like the annual Red Bull Dolomitenmann, the biggest multi-sport relay race on earth. No surprise that about 500 spectators attended this years cardboard race despite the not so quite common weather for the region - overcast and rather chilly temperatures.

Plenty of action on the Drau River ©Arnd Schaeftlein, Deckers Europe

Wetsuits, helmets and paddles got supplied by a local raft company for those who just decided on the sport to join the fun event with plenty of local and international teams signing up. They had 3 hours to build their crafts purely out of cardboard and packing tape. Once finished they had to paddle down the short and pushy section of whitewater of the towns whitewater park, with most of them crossing the finish line more and less in one piece and everyone still on board...

In the end it was a team of 2 young Slovakian girls taking first place with their “Chic`s Boat” beating 2 strong local teams from Lienz to second and third place.

A big thank you to the water rescue team to pick up all the bits and pieces !

Back to the Beginning

by RandyPierce - Teva Life Agent 14. June 2010 15:00

We now have just 19 days until we summit Mount Washington. So, last Saturday we set out for Pack Monadnock where my return to climbing began.  A beautiful morning turned unexpectedly to heavy rain, illustrating just how quickly the weather changes here in New Hampshire. It was great training for weather conditions but not so good for video work. Returning to where it started I was impressed at how much more efficient Quinn and I had become as a hiking team.   This was even more significant given the the challenges of slippery wet rock.

At the trail head we took a moment to get boots on Quinn reflect on how it all began one year ago.

Join Teva and Waterkeeper Alliance to Save Our Gulf

by The Insider 10. June 2010 06:39

On Earth Day, 2010, the Gulf of Mexico was rocked with one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history. Already, fishing between the Mississippi River and Florida Panhandle has been shut down, putting incredible strain on the men and women who rely on the Gulf for their livelihood. Countless jobs will be and have been lost in the Gulf’s fishing and tourism industries, further pummeling an already struggling regional economy. The waters of the Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama and Mexico coastlines will be affected for years to come.

Through our continued commitment to being stewards of clean water along with our partnership with Waterkeeper Alliance, we made an emergency donation of 100K that will assist in the effort to protect and clean up this delicate area as well as create awareness on ways you can help in these efforts.

We're all part of the solution!  Visit Teva's official Facebook page to find out more.

Day 4 - 2010 Teva Mountain Games

by The Insider 7. June 2010 08:12

Despite all whitewater events being cancelled on the final day due to extremely high water, the 2010 Teva Mountain Games went off as a spectacular celebration of sports, art and music. Sunday's events included the 10k, road bike time trial, bike slopestyle and dockdogs events. Slopestyle was a real crowd-pleaser, with Teva Life Agent Jeff Lenosky on the mic while Eric Lawrenuk took first place with a front flip on a borrowed bike. We're already looking forward to seeing everyone again at the 2011 Teva Mountain Games!
